Gustavo Camacho

Gustavo-Camacho-hornGustavo Camacho is instructor of horn at Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. Prior to his appointment at Interlochen, Dr. Camacho served as principal horn of Phoenix Opera, performed regularly with The Phoenix Symphony and was on the brass faculty at the Arizona School for the Arts where he specialized in coaching brass chamber groups. He has performed as principal horn with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, the Musica Nova Orchestra and the Salt River Brass Band, and has performed with numerous orchestras throughout the Southwest including the National Repertory Orchestra, Symphony of the Southwest, and the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra. An active soloist and clinician, Dr. Camacho was recently a featured soloist with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and the IAA Band, and also presented a masterclass and performance at the 2012 Southwest Regional Horn Conference.

Dr. Camacho appeared as a finalist in the professional division of the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2004, and continued his dedication to chamber music by performing with leading professional chamber groups that included The Interlochen Brass and Woodwind Quintet, The Herberger Woodwind Quintet, The Red Rock Brass, and The Southwest Brass. Dr. Camacho’s principal horn teachers include Nancy Joy and John Ericson, and his chamber ensemble philosophies stem from extensive chamber study with Empire Brass Quintet founding member Sam Pilafian. Dr. Camacho holds a Bachelor of Music degree from New Mexico State University, and a Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in horn performance from Arizona State University.
